Welcome to Galleywood Folk

mg 6440 copyGalleywoodfolk.co.uk is a website originally dedicated to research on local casualities of war and a tribute to those that fell.

The casualities are categorised into three main sections; World War I, World War II and other conflicts. Here, you'll find details of the individuals to the extent of research which is always ongoing, so if you have any information or local knowledge then I would love to hear from you.

The website originated as a way of promoting interest in my campaign for the Galleywood War Memorial. This was finally built in 2010 and dedicated on 16th  May 2010

It has since grown into a tribute to the casualties, but also more than this: hopefully it will also become a tribute to Galleywood's rich history and heritage

Many thanks for looking

Wendy

Acknowledgements

Credit for much of the information on the casualties of war must go to Christine Whybro Potter.

Other sources include the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, Essex Regiment Museum, the Western Front Association [especially Karen Dennis], Andrew Begent, Service records and medal rolls, and of course relatives who supplied photos.

I would also like to thank Paul Hudson who set this site up for me free of charge, and continues to be of enormous help.

The site, of necessity, gives only brief details of our casualties. A great deal more information is available. Contact me for more details.
